D. Timothy Duncan, CPA
Tim serves as the Managing Principal of the firm. He graduated in 1973 from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Prior to forming our firm in 1984, Tim was a partner in a regional accounting firm. He has completed the Circuit Court Civil Mediation Training Program offered by the South Carolina Council for Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Tim is an executive committee and board member of the University of North Carolina Wilmington Foundation. He has served the accounting profession as the President of the Grand Strand Chapter of the South Carolina Association of CPAs(SCACPA), member of the Board of Directors of SCACPA and chairman of several SCACPA committees. He served in Viet Nam in the US Navy and is a member of V.F.W. and other civic organizations. Tim is also certified as a private pilot.
Tim is a member of First United Methodist Church. He and his wife Debbie have two daughters, Ginny and Ashley.
Edward M. Farmer, CPA
Ed is the principal in charge of the firm's taxation services. He graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. Prior to forming our fim in 1984, Ed was a manager in a regional accounting firm. Ed is a member of the Taxation Section of the AICPA. He has served in various leadership positions in the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach, as Senior Warden and Vestry member of Trinity Episcopal Church, as Treasurer and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, participated in Class III and served as Treasurer of the Board of Regents of Leadership Grand Strand, as Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 850, and as a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Dunes Club.
Ed is a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He has been married to Claudia since 1981. They have two sons, Merritt and Patterson.
James W. McIlrath, CPA
James is the principal in charge of the firm's small business services. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from The Pennsylvania State University and was employed as Assistant Controller of ACE Auto Parts, Inc. of St. Petersburg, Florida. James joined Duncan, Farmer, Munden, McIlrath & Cobb in 1987 and completed a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Carolina. He has completed the AICPA's Tax Planning and Advising for Closely Held Businesses Certificate of Educational Achievement Program. James is a member of the Information Technology Section of the American Institute of CPAs. He is a member of the Board of Directors and has served the accounting profession as a member and chairman of the Membership, Continuing Professional Education, Management Advisory Services/Personal Financial Planning and Management Advisory Services/Technical Information Committees of the South Carolina Association of CPAs. James served as 2008-09 Governor of South Carolina District of Civitan International. He served as the Scoutmaster of the Pee Dee Area Council’s 2010 National Jamboree Contingent. He has served the community in various leadership positions for the Myrtle Beach Civitan Club, Cub Scout Pack 850, Boy Scout Troop 850, Chicora District Committee of the Pee Dee Area Council, South Carolina and Horry County Special Olympics, Waccamaw Youth Center, Leadership Grand Strand Board of Regents, United Way of Horry County, Myrtle Beach Hospitality Association, and as the Finance Division Volunteer Chairman of the PGA Senior Tour Championship.
James is a member of St. Philips Lutheran Church. He has been married to Karen since 1987. They have a daughter, Heather, and two sons, CJ and Ian.
J Eric Marlowe, CPA
Eric is the principal in charge of the firm’s Construction industry audit and tax work and specializes in various other industries in our tax department. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina-Coastal in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in accounting. Eric joined our firm in 1996 and became a principal in 2006. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as The SC Association of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the Grand Strand Optimist Club as well as a committee member and volunteer for the North Strand Ducks Unlimited organization.
Eric is a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church. He and his wife Michele have two daughters, Allison and Macey.
Margaret McLaughlin, CPA
Margaret is the principal in charge of the firm’s audit services, including non-profits. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. She is a member of the Personal Financial Planning Section of the American Institute of CPAs. She joined the firm in 1991 after working for five years with a local sole practitioner. She has served the accounting profession as the President of the Grand Strand Chapter of the South Carolina Association of CPAs(SCACPA). She has also served in several task force committees in SCACPA. Margaret is a graduate of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Grand Strand Class 30. She currently serves on the Small Business Council with the Chamber. Margaret volunteers her expertise to her church as the treasurer and as the treasurer for Forestbrook Elementary School PTA.
Margaret is a member of Genesis Church of Myrtle Beach. She has been married to Matt since 1989. They have one son Zachary.
Duncan, Farmer, Munden, McIlrath & Cobb opened for business May 1, 1984, with an office located at the Village of Barefoot Traders in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On November 15, 1985, the practice moved to Myrtle Beach in its present location on 29th Avenue. In 1995 the firm merged with Cobb & Cobb, CPAs which served the Grand Strand since the early 1960s.
The members of the firm have a history of participation and leadership with the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, as well as its Grand Strand Chapter. The members of the firm are also members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and its Tax, Information Technology and Personal Financial Planning Sections.
In 1987 the firm joined, and continues to participate in, the Private Companies Practice Section of the AICPA.
